The mission of the Division of Experimental Medicine is to understand the human immune system so that lifesaving therapies and vaccines can be developed to protect against chronic infectious diseases of global importance, and to establish a training environment that fosters patient-oriented research in the U.S. and abroad.
To achieve this mission, our goals are:
- To perform cutting-edge research in the human immunology of chronic infectious diseases
- To form an interactive research environment in which scientists working on different chronic infectious diseases can share information and look for common patterns
- To use the resulting information to inform the development of effective vaccines and therapies against medically important chronic infectious diseases
- To train the next generation of scientists who will ensure that these vaccines and therapies are optimized, validated, and applied around the world
